K9 Explosive Detection is aimed at detector dog trainers and police departments looking for alternative training ideas or for ways to set up their own Course Training Standards. The author examines some of the major training systems in use by police departments in North America, and offers a training system that combines the most effective features of each of them.
Designed to produce handler/dog teams that can conduct Efficient, Effective and Safe searches in any setting and under a variety of conditions, K9 Explosive Detection focuses on the how-to aspects of EDD training, particularly on a gradual build-up of learning experiences and ongoing problem-solving. This system can produce more confident EDD teams.
The author also takes a few moments to detail problems which arise from factors external to the EDD team, such as working with other police specialty units, administrative road-blocks, and involving non-police personnel at airports in EDD training to produce the most effective explosive detection teams (EDD, EVD and private security).
