About the Author
Ken Wallentine is the Chief of Police in West Jordan, Utah. He is the former Chief of Law Enforcement for the Office of the Utah Attorney General. Prior to his service as chief, he was Investigations Bureau Chief and Administrative Counsel for Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training Division of the Utah epartment of Public Safety. He has also served as a Special Prosecutor in homicide cases. Chief Wallentine is a former member of the Scientific Working Group on Dog and Orthogonal Detector Guidelines, a best practices study group associated with the National Institute of Justice, the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Chief Wallentine is also a Senior Legal Advisor for Lexipol, publishers of Chief Wallentine’s legal update newsletter, Xiphos, now in its twentieth year. His community involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Peace Officer Merit Commission of Greater Salt Lake County. Chief Wallentine serves as a risk management consultant and use-of-force expert for several police departments and sheriffs’ offices. As a legal Instructor for the International Police Canine Conference, Chief Wallentine trained officers in all regions of the nation on police canine use of force and search and seizure laws.
