Odor prints are a training aid for explosive detection K-9s.
They allow the dog handler to have access to real explosive odors that are not an explosive hazard or dangerous to the K-9.
No licenses or special storage is required.
Odor prints are inexpensive and long lasting making them convenient for training scenarios of all kinds.
Unlike other products, the Odor print’s larger surface area allows from more available odor than pouring powders into a scent tin or bag.
Other “real” odor products produce significantly less vapor pressure.
Storage of the odor print in the metallized mylar resealable envelope is "indefinite" unopened which minimizes the headspace volume and prevents permeation through the envelope. This further extends the shelf life of the odor print and prevents contamination.
* It is recommended to remove and handle this product with sterile gloves to prevent human contamination.
As for longevity of the odor once removed from the protected mylar packaging will depend on handling and storage, from 4 to 6 months. A recent laboratory test showed that only the target odor was present on a four-month-old odor print that had been handled extensively. The sample was used in training, handled by multiple people and stored in a vehicle to simulate real life exposures.
Odor prints are constructed with the filter medium sealed in between aluminum discs riveted together.
No adhesives are used in the process and assembly is performed with gloved hands in a clean environment. This prevents contamination with other target odors and human odors from handling.
Odor prints do not use solvents or other materials that require the handler to “proof” their dog off.

Shelf life: "INDEFINITE" shelf life until the mylar packaging is opened and product removed. Opened mylar, approximately 4-6 months depending on handling and environment. Refrigeration is not required but cooler temperature out of direct sunlight will prolong the shelf life.
Equivalent Explosive Weight: Available odor is based on exposed surface area, not on total weight present. The odor print approximates the available odor of the standard scent tin or bag.

Gloves: To prevent contamination with human scent, it is highly recommended that sterile gloves are used whenever handling the odor print or any other odor. Glove changes required when switching odors is also highly recommended.
Prevent K9 Contact: Using a scent tin, Egyptian cotton bags or other barrier to prevent direct canine contact with the Odor Print is recommended. The aluminum protective discs can be cleaned with a cloth, but it is not recommended that anything come in contact with the media between the aluminum protective discs.
Storage: Odor prints are shipped in metallized mylar envelopes to prevent decomposition of the odor and cross contamination with an indefinite shelf life until opened. The small volume also helps to prevent off-gassing in storage. It is recommended that odor prints remain in their original packaging even between uses. Refrigeration is not required but cooler temperature out of direct sunlight will prolong the shelf life.
